[01] New Ambassadors of Spain and Thailand present credentials
Spain believes that Cypru's accession to the European Union "will be an
element of stability and development to the country", Spain's new
Ambassador to Cyprus, Mariano Garcia Munoz, stated yesterday.
Presenting his credentials to President Glafcos Clerides at a formal
ceremony at the Presidential palace, Ambassador Munoz pointed out that his
government has always supported Cyprus' unconditional accession to the
EU.
He also stressed that his country is following with great attention the
Cyprus government's efforts to find a solution to the political problem
noting that it fully supports the United Nations resolutions as a means of
achieving it.
Also presenting his credentials to President Clerides yesterday, the new
Ambassador of Thailand Mr Somboon Sangiambut referred to the excellent
relations that exist between Cyprus and Thailand in the fields of politics,
economy and culture. He also expressed the wish to strengthen even further
the friendly relationship, good understanding and close co-operation that
already exist between the two countries and their people.
[02] Cyprus signs Double - Taxation Agreement with Thailand
Cyprus and Thailand have signed an agreement on the avoidance of Double
Taxation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed yesterday by the Permanent Secretary of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Alecos Shambos and the new Thailand
Ambassador to Cyprus, Mr Somboon Sangiambut.
[03] Cyprus and Egypt ratify agreement for the extradition of fugitives
The Cyprus Minister of Justice and Public Order Mr Nicos Koshis and the
Ambassador of Egypt Mr Mohamed Fadel El Kadi have exchanged documents for
the ratification of an agreement for the extradition of fugitives, which
had been signed between the two countries in March 1996.
The agreement aims at strengthening legal co-operation between the two
countries and especially at combating organised crime and administering
justice.
