Spain believes that Cypru's accession to the European Union "will be an element of stability and development to the country", Spain's new Ambassador to Cyprus, Mariano Garcia Munoz, stated yesterday.

Presenting his credentials to President Glafcos Clerides at a formal ceremony at the Presidential palace, Ambassador Munoz pointed out that his government has always supported Cyprus' unconditional accession to the EU.

He also stressed that his country is following with great attention the Cyprus government's efforts to find a solution to the political problem noting that it fully supports the United Nations resolutions as a means of achieving it.

Also presenting his credentials to President Clerides yesterday, the new Ambassador of Thailand Mr Somboon Sangiambut referred to the excellent relations that exist between Cyprus and Thailand in the fields of politics, economy and culture. He also expressed the wish to strengthen even further the friendly relationship, good understanding and close co-operation that already exist between the two countries and their people.
