"I very much regret that Mr. Denktash has turned down that offer and has also turned down an invitation we had given to come to London to discuss it, " he said. "We will certainly continue to do what we can to promote the dialogue in Cyprus and to find a way in which we can achieve the twin end of Cyprus as a member to the EU and Cyprus as a single sovereign island without the present division." [02] Cyprus' EU course discussedThe issues that will be raised during Cyprus' accession negotiations with the European Union were discussed yesterday at a meeting at the Foreign Ministry, headed by Minister Ioannis Kasoulides."The meeting was held within the framework of the preparation of our positions that will be presented during the accession process," Mr Kasoulides said. He added "there are many political repercussions from the acquis screening that must be examined carefully, with the help of the Attorney General and government departments." A ministerial committee on EU accession will discuss all issues examined at yesterday's meeting. [03] EU-Cyprus parliamentary committee meetingThe 13th meeting of the joint parliamentary committee between Cyprus and the European Union will take place this week to hear views on the accession negotiations, the participation of Turkish Cypriots in membership talks, structural funds and pre-accession strategy funding, common foreign and security policy and the environment.Nine Euro MPs from seven countries are expected to attend the joint meeting, co-chaired by Cypriot deputy Tassos Papadopoulos and Belgian deputy Philippe Monfils, who will address the opening session of the JPC meeting. Representatives of the current EU presidency (Britain), the EU Commission and the Cyprus government will make statements on the political situation in Cyprus and EU-Cyprus relations.
