[01] Foreign Minister continues his European tour

Cyprus' Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has completed his visit to Estonia and is today in Germany where he is meeting Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel.

[02] Government to look into French statement on Cyprus

The Acting Foreign Minister, Minister of Finance Christodoulos Christodoulou said today that the government will look into the actual contents of a reported statement by the French Minister in charge of European Affairs, Pierre Moscovici.

According to press agency reports, Mr Moscovici said yesterday, after a meeting in Paris with Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem, that France believes that a necessary prerequisite for Cyprus' accession to the European Union is that a solution to the political problem should first be found.

Mr Christodoulou said, moreover, that at first sight this position does not conform with France's previous positions on Cyprus or those repeatedly adopted by the European Union as a whole.

[03] Limassol Wine Festival opens tonight

For the first time since it was held, the Limassol Wine Festival opens tonight with a procession inspired from Greek mythology depicting Dionysos (god of wine) on his chariot.

The procession will start in the Amathus area, proceeding along the coastal road of this southern resort and ending at the Limassol Municipal Gardens, where the festival is being held.

The Limassol Wine Festival is traditionally celebrated at the beginning of September and brings joy and merriment to locals and tourist who visit it.

Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Kyriacos Christofi will officially open the festival which will remain open to the public for free wine drinking until 14 September.

The festival includes many cultural activities such as folkloric dancing, singing and theatre which visitors may enjoy while tasting traditional Cyprus delicacies and local wine.
