[02] Cyprus takes another step towards the European Union

Cyprus and the EU on July 25th signed three agreements providing for bilateral cooperation in education, professional training and youth programmes.

The three programmes "Socrates", Leonardo" and "Youth for Europe" which deal with education, professional training and youth respectively have a five-year life span and will come to effect once both contracting parties approve or ratify the agreements.

Until recently the programmes were only available for member-states as well as Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein.

Both Cyprus and the EU will set up a joint committee for each programme to oversee the implementation of the agreements and select the programmes Cyprus will submit as part of its participation in them.

Cyprus will contribute funds to all three.
