    Current developments in the Cyprus problem, after the intensification of the UN-led peace talks, were discussed during a meeting between House President Demetris Syllouris and US Democratic New Jersey Senator, Robert Menendez, who holds contacts in Cyprus.

    A House press release said that Syllouris underlined the importance which the Greek Cypriot side attributes to the issue of security. In this framework, he said, any solution must safeguard the immediate withdrawal of the occupation army and the abolition of the anachronistic guarantees.

    An independent state does not need guarantees in today`s world, Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Stanislav Osadchiy has said, noting that Cypriots themselves must solve issues of guarantees, security and the territory, without any foreign interventions.

    In statements in the framework of a business meeting organized in Limassol on the occasion of a visit by a Saint Petersburg government delegation, Osadchiy said that Russia is in constant contact with the Republic of Cyprus and supports the efforts for a Cyprus settlement, expressing hope that they will shortly bear fruit.

    Invited to outline his country`s stance on the issues relating to territory and guarantees, the Russian Ambassador said that they must be solved by Cypriots themselves and this is the most important thing, without any foreign interventions.

    [03] Accommodation and food services sector grew by 0.3% in 2014

    The sector of accommodation and food service activities registered a positive growth rate of 0.3% in 2014 compared to a decrease of 7.0% in 2013, the Statistical Service announced on Wednesday, in its annual report "Hotels and Restaurants Statistics, 2014".

    It said that employment in the sector of hotels and restaurants increased by 8.6% in 2014 compared to the previous year and reached 36,432 persons, accounting for 10.7% of the total gainfully employed population.

    The value added of the sector at current market prices increased by 1.3% to ā‚¬993,9 mn in 2014, compared to ā‚¬981,0 mn in 2013. The sector's contribution to gross value added was 6.5% compared to 6.0% in 2013.

    Of the total value added, 52.6% was generated through the activity of hotels and hotel apartments, 33.2% by restaurants and mobile food service activities, 10.2% by cafeterias, ...
