    Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, has said that the involvement of all countries which can contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem, and especially of the UN Security Council members, is most welcome as well as necessary.

    In statements to the media, on the sidelines of a ceremony for the presentation of the 8th bi-communal Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Awards, in a venue at the buffer zone, in Nicosia, and asked whether the UN Security Council should undertake a more active role for a solution to the Cyprus problem, the President said that he believes that everybody should become active, the EU - which is already active, and all the Security Council member states.

    He added that there is now an opportunity to solve the second most protracted problem which the United Nations face.

    Cyprus retail trade (excluding motor vechicles) marked annual growth for the period of January - August 2016, according to provisional estimates issued by the Statistical Service on Tuesday.

    According to Cystat, the Turnover Volume Index of Retail Trade for August 2016 increased by 1.8% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and reached 92,1 units (base 2010=100).

    For the period January-August 2016, the index is estimated to have recorded an increase of 4.5% compared to the same period of 2015.

    Furthermore, the Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade for August 2016 increased by 2.6% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and reached 91,0 units (base 2010=100).
