[01] Anastasiades looks forward to work closely with Guterres to achieve a Cyprus settlement

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has sent a message to Antonio Guterres, congratulating him on his appointment as the new UN Secretary General.

Anastasiades noted in his message that he looks forward to work closely with Guterres in achieving a peaceful and comprehensive settlement on the long-standing Cyprus problem, based on a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality, as set out in the relevant Security Council resolutions, the High Level Agreements and the Joint Declaration of February 2014, with a single international legal personality, a single sovereignty and a single citizenship. A viable, lasting and functional settlement that will safeguard the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all Cypriots, he added.

The European Investment Bank since 2011 has invested in Cyprus €1.3 billion or around €260 million per year, said on Monday its Vice President Jonathan Taylor.

He was speaking at the signing ceremony at the Ministry of Finance of two agreements to loan €40 million for a new water pipeline to pump drinking water from the Vassilikos desalination plant to the greater western Nicosia region and a €15 million loan for the construction of two anti-flooding rain water stations in Larnaca.
