    An agreement on the Cyprus issue is well within reach Slovak Ambassador Oksana Tomova has said. Tomova has also expressed the belief that there is space for the leaders of both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities to resume the talks.

    The Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia was addressing a reception organized by the embassy at Ledra Palace, the place leaders and representatives of political parties of the G/C and T/C communities hold their regular meetings for the past 25 years under the auspices of the Slovak diplomacy.

    For almost 25 years the political parties have been meeting and exchanged views in a "spirit of cooperation, reflection and mutual understanding," Tomova said stressing that these meetings are of greater importance than before, given the fact that the official political negotiations are frozen.

    Cyprus Minister of Agriculture Nicos Kouyialis has pointed out the necessity of regional cooperation for environmental protection as regards activities which are related with the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons.

    The Minister was addressing a Mediterranean Conference, which took place in Florence between January 21 and 22, entitled "The Mediterranean - A new El Dorado of hydrocarbons", an official press release issued here on Wednesday says.

    Kouyialis stressed the economic importance of finding hydrocarbon reserves within Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone for the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.
