  • [01] Passenger traffic in May satisfactory and encouraging

The latest results for passenger traffic for May at the two international airports of Cyprus are satisfactory and encouraging, a press release by Hermes Airports, the operator of Cyprus' airports, says.

It is noted that based on official figures from Hermes Airports, during the period 01 until 31May, there has been a notable increase in passenger traffic of 5.5% in comparison to the corresponding period last year.

"This improvement in traffic is due mainly to the Easter Holidays, the increase in flight capacity to and from Russia and the United Kingdom, as well as a certain low cost airline resuming its summer routes to and from Pafos" the press release says.

[02] German and Spanish FMs extend invitation to their Cypriot counterpart

Foreign Ministers of Germany and Spain have extended an invitation to Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides to participate in a discussion on the EU's future that will take place next week in Mallorca.

According to CNA sources, German Ambassador in Nicosia Dr. Gabriela Guellil and Spanish Ambassador Ana Salomon met Friday with Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides to whom they extended a joint invitation by the Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Guido Westerwelle and his Spanish counterpart José Manuel García-Margallo y Marfíl to Mallorca on June 19.

Among the issues to be discussed will be the decisive juncture of the EU today, how the euro can be stabilized on a durable basis in order to secure growth and employment in the euro area and in the EU as a whole, and how to restore citizens` confidence in the joint European project and strengthen the democratic legitimacy of European action.

[03] BoC Ukraine operates normally, says Bank of Cyprus

Bank of Cyprus Ukraine (BoC Ukraine) operates normally and has no restrictions in servicing clients, a Bank of Cyprus (BoC) press release issued here on Friday says.

According to the press release "following press articles referring to the freezing of the ownership of the Ukrainian's subsidiary, PJSC Bank of Cyprus Ukraine, the Bank of Cyprus Public Company Ltd announces that in May 2013, Luxori Smart Ltd appealed to the Commercial Court of Kiev with a claim against a number of defendants, including BoC and its subsidiary in Ukraine".

The decisions of the Commercial Court of Kyiv do not affect the operations of BOC Ukraine, it notes.
