  • [01] Cyprus to host international conference on aviation safety and economic crisis

Cyprus based Flight Safety Foundation-Mediterranean is organising the international conference on "Aviation Safety in the turbulence of the current economic crisis", from13 to 14 June. The Conference will be opened by the Minister of Communications and Works of Cyprus, Tasos Mitsopoulos.

Frank Brenner, EUROCONTROL`s Director General and Tony Licu, Head of EUROCONTROL`s Safety Unit, Catalin Radu , President of the European Civil Aviation Conference and Luis Fonseca de Almeida, Director of ICAO Europe and North Atlantic Office, will be among the participants of the Conference, which aims to bring together representatives from the aviation community to discuss key aspects of safety in relation to economics.

The Conference is particularly important since the aviation sector is a potentially important factor for Cyprus' economic growth, at a time when Turkey attempts to upgrade an illegal airport and control center operating in the northern areas of Cyprus it occupies since its troops invaded in 1974.
