[01] Statistical Service: Trade balance deficit continues to fallImports continued to fall as exports continued to rise in April, which led to a fall of the trade balance deficit, preliminary data published on Monday by the Cyprus Statistical Service shows.The trade balance deficit continued to fall on a monthly basis for the sixth consecutive month since November 2012, recording in April €161 million compared to €373.74 million in April 2012 and €261.95 million in March 2013. On an annual basis the deficit was down in April for the eighth month running, since September 2012. Additionally, the preliminary data shows a significant reduction in the trade balance deficit by €450 million in the period between January and April 2013 which shrank to €1.0 billion from €1.45 billion during the corresponding period of last year. [02] CNHC and Noble to discuss technical plan on LNG terminalUS Noble Energy and Cyprus National Hydrocarbons Company (CNHC) were set to discuss on Monday future steps in natural gas exploitation following the completion of a technical plan for the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas terminal (LNG).CNHC President Charles Ellinas told CNA that Noble and the CNHC will meet today to discuss the plan. "On the basis of the plan and the developments so far we will have the opportunity to discuss once again the timeframe, for the LNG terminal" he said. [03] Commission: RASFF notification down in EU and CyprusEurope's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) notifications reached a total of 8,797, down by 3.9% in 2012 compared to 2011, a European Commission report published on Monday shows.Likewise as regards notifications originating from Cyprus, in 2012 Cypriot authorities issued 51 such notifications compared to 76 in 2011. Almost 50% of notifications related to food and feed rejections at EU borders due to the risk they posed to food safety. [04] Delek looks forward to accelerating hydrocarbons discovery processDelek Drilling Chairman and CEO for Avner, Gydeon Tadmor, said on Monday that he is looking forward to accelerating the process of developing hydrocarbon reserves found within Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).In a short statement to the press after he and Delek Group head Yitzhak Tshuva were received by President of the Republic Nicos Anasatasiades in the presence of Cyprus Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Tadmor expressed his satisfaction over the meeting and the hope for "a long lasting cooperation between our company, the state of Israel and the state of Cyprus". "We just started to drill Aphrodite 2, the second appraisal well of our discovery and we are looking forward to accelerate the process of developing this discovery for the benefit of the people of Cyprus and for the benefit of our shareholders", he noted. [05] Defence Ministry meeting discusses ammunition in Zygi areaNeither consumers nor the environment are at any risk from explosives that are on the seabed in Cyprus` area, Minister of Defence Photis Photiou and Minister of Health Petros Petrides said on Monday, speaking after a meeting concerning the environment and health from the dumping of ammunition in the sea off Zygi, on the southern coast. They also assured there was no possibility of an explosion.Asked if the ammunition could be moved elsewhere, Photiou said the experts would be evaluating the situation and drafting proposals, adding that the ammunition was about 13 nautical miles from the shore at a depth of 500 metres. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Nicos Kouyialis, Environment Commissioner Ioanna Panayiotou, representatives of the Fisheries Department, the Environment Services, the State Laboratory and the National Guard.
