[01] Greek Health Minister to visit CyprusMinister of Health and Social Solidarity of Greece Andreas Lykourentzos is paying an official visit to Cyprus between April 25-26.According to an official statement issued Tuesday in Nicosia, Lykourenzos will meet with Cyprus Health Minister Petros Petrides with whom he will discuss bilateral relations on health issues. The two Ministers will also inaugurate the 4th World Conference of the Global Hellenic Medical and Biosciences Network which is taking place in the coastal city of Paphos. [02] House President: Eurogroup decision on Cyprus leads to povertyYiannakis Omirou, President of the Cyprus House, stressed Tuesday that the Eurogroup decision to impose a haircut on deposits in Cyprus' two biggest banks destroys Cyprus as a financial centre and leads Cypriots to poverty.Omirou said that the decision "is unprecedented and has buried once and for all a fundamental principle of the EU, the principle of solidarity". "This decision undermines and destroys Cyprus as a financial centre with extremely adverse consequences on employment and social cohesion and leads a large part of the population, especially the younger generation, to unemployment, poverty and social cohesion", Omirou noted during the proceedings of the Conference of Speakers of EU Parliaments, hosted at "Filoxenia" Conference Centre, in Nicosia. [03] Investigative Committee to conclude its work soon, says MinisterThe Investigative Committee appointed to probe into possible civil, criminal or political liabilities concerning developments in Cyprus' banking sector and the economy, will conclude its work the soonest possible, Minister of Justice and Public Order Ionas Nikolaou has said.Nicolaou also pointed out that the Government has pledged that will provide support and assistance to the Committee. On Monday, one of the members of the Committee, Panagiotis Kallis handed over its resignation, for personal reasons. Invited by CNA to comment on the fact, Nikolaou said that the personal reasons have to do with what he states as clash of interests and relate with some of the cases that are handled by the Law Firm his children work for. [04] Cyprus supports Irish Presidency's efforts for agreement on MFFMinister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides has expressed support to the efforts of the EU Irish Presidency to achieve an agreement on the Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF) the soonest possible.Speaking during a meeting of the EU General Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Kasoulides said that the Council must pay attention to the issues raised by the European Parliament, especially on the issues of flexibility and of an interim review of the MFF. He also agreed that the Council must examine the amount of the 2013 amending budget. As regards the proposal of some member states to establish a new mechanism with a view to safeguard the fundamental principles of the EU, Kasoulides said that everyone agrees that the rule of law, democracy and human rights are fundamental principles of the EU, and that it will be helpful to have a discussion on the issue of their implementation by member states, and referred to Article 2 of the Lisbon Treaty, which refers to issues, such as solidarity. He said that instead of considering the creation of a new mechanism, there can be a structured dialogue and the Commission can prepare an annual report on these issues. [05] Cypriot MP assumes duties as PACE General Rapporteur on ChildrenHead of the Cyprus delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Stella Kyriakides has been appointed on behalf of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development as General Rapporteur on Children until March 2015.According to an official press release, her appointment is particularly important and an honour for Cyprus. Kyriakides assumed her duties on Monday, in the framework of the second part of the 2013 PACE spring session that began in Strasbourg. Her duties include intervening in the field of rights, protection and development of children and promoting the participation of these children in the social framework they belong.
