[01] Gavras named honorary Doctor of Philosophy at University of Cyprus
Costas Gavras, the only Greek director who has won an Oscar, was named
honorary Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Cyprus on Tuesday.
Gavras said Cyprus was an example of Hellenism because it fought,
resisted, suffered, and is still suffering, but has retained its Greek
character.
He said the Greek Cypriots were living with the uncertainty of the future,
but expressed certainty that they will beat misfortune as they have done
so many other times in the past.
