  • [01] Treasury: Banks to accept government checks

Cyprus banks will accept the deposit of government checks, an announcement by the Treasury of the Republic says.

It is added that government services and independent offices will accept checks by all financial institutions under certain conditions.

These provide for checks up to 5,000 euros to be acceptable without any restrictions, while checks above this limit and up to 200,000 euros will be acceptable upon the approval of the Central Bank Committee, which was set up in accordance with the relevant law imposing restrictions on financial transactions.

[02] Cyprus can become a bridge between the Arab world and EU, says Defence Minister

Cyprus situated on the Eastern border of the EU can become a bridge between the Arab world and the EU as well as a factor of peace in the region, and this is very important for us, said Friday Minister of Defence Photis Photiou.

Speaking to the Press after a meeting with Russian Ambassador of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Shumskiy, Photiou said Cyprus and Russia maintain traditionally excellent relations and cooperation in all areas and the Government of the Republic wants these relationships to develop and deepen even further.

"During our meeting we had the opportunity to discuss issues that fail within the framework of the Ministry of Defence, the Middle-eAST developments in our Exclusive Economic Zone and the threats by Turkey and the role of Cyprus in the region", he noted.
