[01] ECB member: Crisis in Cyprus is uniqueThe banking crisis in Cyprus was a unique case and the rescue plan used should not be seen as a model for other European countries that fall into trouble, ECB Executive Board member Benoit Coeure said on Tuesday.According to Reuters, Coeure told Europe 1 radio that the bailout agreed for Cyprus underscored the need to improve bank regulation by having the European Central Bank act as an independent supervisor under plans for a European banking union. He said he disagreed with Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem`s assertion that the Cyprus bailout would serve as a model for crises elsewhere. [02] Agriculture Minister: local produce should be supportedAgriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Minister Nicos Kougialis has stressed that the local agricultural and farm produce should be directly supported through specific proposals and measures until the situation on the island returns to normal.Kougialis was speaking during a meeting with representatives from the poultry, sheep and goat producers as well as pig producers and farmers' organizations. An official statement said that after the agreement with Eurogroup and the restructuring of the financial sector that is underway, the Minister met on Tuesday with the representatives of the various farmers' associations to discuss the repercussions in the farming industry and to examine immediate solutions to the problems arising. [03] German MEP: Cyprus has been treated as a country of serial killersGerman MEP of Greek descent and Vice President of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association Jorgo Chatzimarkakis said that Cyprus has been wounded but it must manage to overcome the obstacles posed before her by many conflicting interests.Chatzimarkakis said in a press release that there are long-standing responsibilities of Cypriot governments for the current situation, adding that they do not however justify the behaviour of those who are powerful in Europe and who have treated Cyprus as a country of serial killers instead of a law-abiding country, which has however made mistakes. He noted that despite the adverse negotiating conditions, it is important both for Cyprus and Europe that an agreement has been reached, adding however that the "haircut" agreed is painful.
