  • [01] A managed and orderly way forward still possible in Cyprus, says Commission

The European Commission believes that a managed and orderly way forward is still possible for the Cyprus crisis, Simon O'Connor, Spokesperson of Commissioner Oli Rhen said Thursday.

Invited to comment on the situation in Cyprus and the discussions underway, O' Connor pointed out that the situation is serious and it is of the utmost urgency for Cyprus to provide clarity on the way forward.

He went on to say that the European Central Bank has made it clear of what the timeline is, adding that it is foremost for Cyprus to present a credible and coherent way forward.

[02] Party leaders optimistic that Cyprus crisis will be resolved

Party leaders were optimistic that obstacles would be surmounted with a new proposal on the table for the establishment of a solidarity investment fund, after a meeting they had with President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, on Thursday.

Ruling party DISY acting leader Averof Neofytou expressed his optimism that a solution will be found to the problems the Cyprus economy is facing.

In statements he made after the meeting he said that the political leadership is working hard with a single aim: to save the country. "We are all trying to avoid our country's bankruptcy and it is up to us", he noted.
