  • [01] Energy Minister and Greek counterpart agree on closer cooperation

Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis and his Greek counterpart Evangelos Livieratos have agreed to meet every three months to better coordinate Cyprus and Greece's joint operations on energy issues.

Lakkotrypis and Livieratos held a tête-á- tête meeting, on the sidelines of the second Energy Symposium currently underway in Nicosia, and exchanged views on energy issues.

The two Ministers agreed on the need for closer cooperation between them, to better address common challenges.

[02] Efforts underway to attract investment in new technologies

Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos said, on Friday, that he and his colleagues are looking into ways to attract investments in the areas of new technologies, satellite communications and telecommunications.

In statements to the press having visited and presided over a meeting at the Electronic Communications Department, Mitsopoulos also said that Cyprus' EU obligations dictate that a third licence on mobile phone operations should be granted soon, an official press release says.

"We are obligated within a specific and tight timeframe to proceed with licensing", he said.
