[01] Energy Minister to meet DEFA Board of DirectorsMinister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lakkotripis will have on Tuesday a meeting with the Natural Gas Public Company (DEFA) Board of Directors to discuss the short term supply of natural gas.According to CNA sources, the two sides will exchange opinions and ideas and will determine further steps to be followed by DEFA. Meanwhile DEFA is expected to evaluate studies of the three groups which have been commissioned to examine separately the technical and commercial proposals submitted by the three companies/joint ventures which have qualified for the next stage of the process. [02] Cyprus' Trade deficit stood at €4.3 million in 2012Cyprus' trade deficit was recorded at €4,320.0 million in January-December 2012 compared to €4,906.5 million in the corresponding period of 2011.According to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service in its monthly report on Trade Statistics total imports/arrivals, from EU and third countries in the period between January-December 2012, amounted to €5,740.5 million as compared to €6,310.5 million in January-December 2011. Total exports/dispatches in both EU and third countries in January-December 2012 were €1,420.5 million compared to €1,404.0 million in January-December 2011. [03] Pafos 2017 to leave its mark as European Cultural CapitalThe team of "Pafos European Capital of Culture 2017" met with the city's Mayor Savvas Vergas, kick-starting cooperation between the municipal council and the organisation responsible for planning cultural events.In statements after the meeting, Vergas said he hoped to establish a successful cooperation between the municipal council and the organisation. This cooperation, he went on, will encompass all stakeholders, cultural associations, volunteers and organized groups, in order to proceed united and carry out this "great challenge". [04] EU Commissioner: We have to tackle youth unemploymentAndroulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, has said that youth unemployment now stands at 23.6% in the EU, where some 5.7 million young people under 25 are unemployed and at work, young people are strongly over-represented in temporary jobs.Speaking at the EU Youth Conference-Opening Ceremony in Dublin, she thanked the Irish Presidency for the excellent job they have done in organising the event. This Conference, she noted, will complete the first phase of the Structured Dialogue cycle on social inclusion - which is particularly relevant in these difficult times. [05] CSE President: CSE an important driving force of economic growthThe Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) has no official information from the Government about the possibility of possible privatization, as mentioned during today's meeting of the parliamentary committee of finance, which examined the annual budget of this semi-governmental organization.CSE President George Koufaris said that the Stock Exchange remains an important driver of economic growth and still has a key role in drawing funds for both the companies and the Government and providing investors with an alternative proposal for investments. He noted that CSE has an important role to play nowadays particularly in the energy sector, as is the case in Norway and Israel, but also in large projects scheduled to be carried out on the island such as marinas, casinos and golf courses.
