In statements to CNA, Chairman of the Company Costas Ioannou said that according to the procedure that was followed three companies qualified for the last stage of the process, have been invited to clarification meetings and have been asked to submit by midday today their final technical, commercial, clarifying and financial proposals.

Ioannou noted that in case one of the three companies is qualified the contract will be put into force as of January 1st, 2015.

[02] Euro area annual inflation down to 1.8%

Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 1.8% in February 2013, down from 2.0% in January, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. The decline in inflation is due to decrease in the prices of food and industrial goods.

Regarding the main components of euro area inflation, energy (4.0% compared with 3.9% in January) is expected to have the highest annual rate in February, followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (2.7% compared with 3.2% in January), services (1.6%, stable compared with January) and non-energy industrial goods (0.8%, stable compared with January).

The final data on the inflation in the EU, the euro area and member states will be announced on March 15.

[03] Combating unemployment a top goal, says new Minister of Labour

Combating unemployment is the new government's top goal, new Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Harris Georgiades said on Friday, highlighting the fact that there are no easy solutions and that it will take time and effort to exit the crisis.

Georgiades, who was speaking during the taking over ceremony at the Ministry, noted that "unemployment constitutes the most painful consequence of the economic crisis we are facing and dealing with it is certainly a top goal of the new government".

"We have to work collectively and decisively to encourage growth," he stressed, adding that investment and new businesses should be encouraged to help create new jobs. This is the only way to face unemployment, he said.

[04] Larnaca Marina to have three new piers

Three new piers, replacing older ones, are expected to be ready by the new tourist season at the Larnaca Marina. According to Director of the Marina Christos Petrides, two new piers will be placed near the wooden listed one, while the third, which will be shorter, will be installed in front of the Marina's offices.

He added that the works to replace the old jetties began last summer and the 600,000-euro project is expected to be handed over to the Cyprus Tourism Organisation before the new tourist season. With the new floating piers, which will be fire and rust proof, the Larnaca Marina will have a total capacity of 370 berths.

[05] New Government Spokesman assumes duties

With a view to work closely with the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and to act collectively, with consensus and reason, newly appointed Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides assumed on Friday his duties.

Speaking during the hand-over ceremony at the Press and Information Office, Stylianides said that when he accepted his appointment he said his goal is to be the President's right hand "with an aim for collective action, consensus and reason".

The President of the Republic believes that this is the only way forward right now otherwise he would operate outside the remit of the tough realities of present times, he noted. "Collectiveness, consensus, reason", he reiterated.
