  • [01] EU Irish Presidency will drive recovery in Europe, says Scullion

The EU Irish Presidency will be that of a recovery country driving recovery in Europe, Irish Ambassador to Cyprus Patrick Scullion said here on Wednesday at a press conference at the EU House during which he presented priorities of the Irish Presidency.

Under the motto "For Stability, Jobs and Growth", the Irish Presidency aims, according to the Ambassador, to make a difference in three key areas: People-centered recovery, designed to last, Investment in job-friendly growth and in Europe's resources, and Europe and the World: A win-win engagement with our partners.

This is the 7th EU Presidency for Ireland which celebrates this year its 40th anniversary of acceding to the EU. Flanked by Greek Ambassador in Cyprus Vassilios Papaioannou, as Greece is part of the EU Presidency Trio, along with Lithuania, Scullion stressed that "our Programme says that real and tangible decisions will be pushed up, as we chair negotiations across nine different Council formations. Working together with our fellow member states, EU institutions and other stake-holders the Irish Presidency will be a recovery country driving recovery in Europe.
