[01] House President meets new UNHCR Representative
House President Yiannakis Omirou briefed Tuesday the new UNHCR
Representative to Cyprus Damtew Dessalegne on efforts for a new
initiative to solve the Cyprus issue.
According to an official announcement, the two men met in Nicosia, with
Omirou referring to Turkish efforts for a two-state solution. Cyprus
has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied
its northern third.
The House President stated the will of the Greek Cypriot side for a
solution based on relevant UN resolutions, aiming at a state with a
single international personality, citizenship and sovereignty.
