[01] Cypriot minister takes part in Barcelona Convention conference
Cypriot Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Nicos
Kouyialis took part at the 18th Conference of the Convention of Barcelona
for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution, which
took part between December 3 and 6.
According to an official press release the conference decided, inter alia
to take further measures to protect the Mediterranean from pollution,
to increase the number of protected marine species and to prepare an
Action Plan for Sustainable Consumption and Production.
Addressing the conference Kouyialis stressed the importance of protecting
the sea, referring to both its environmental worth as well as the value
it can have in the area of economic growth and the creation of new jobs.
He also announced the government's intention to prepare a National
Strategic Plan for Green and Blue Growth.
