    Justice and Public Order Minister Ionas Nicolaou leaves Wednesday for Brussels where he will attend EU Justice and Home Affairs Council to be held there December 5 and 6.

    The EU Justice and Home Affairs Ministers will discuss the free movement of people in the EU, migration, data protection and future cooperation in the area of freedom, security and justice. Agreement is expected on a regulation to facilitate cross-border debt recovery in civil and commercial matters.

    Both Home Affairs and Justice Ministers will discuss the perspectives of the development of the EU justice and home affairs area, which was already discussed during their informal meeting in Vilnius in July. The current multiannual Stockholm programme expires at the end of 2014 and the Lithuanian Presidency will present the review of opinions and positions of the Member States on the further development of this area.

    [02] UK shuts down 100 high risk BoC accounts

    One hundred accounts in the Bank of Cyprus (BoC) UK were shut down by British regulators as high risk accounts, the governor of the Cyprus Central Bank (CBC) Panicos Demetriades has said.

    Panicos Demetriades told lawmakers on Tuesday, during a meeting of the House Institutions Committee that the accounts, mostly belonging to unnamed Cypriots, had been shut down as part of anti-money laundering checks on politically exposed persons (PEPs) who were considered high risk customers.

    Chairman of the House Committee Demetris Syllouris has said that they asked to receive more data on the accounts, adding that "if there is any information that we must discuss publicly we will do so". He also noted that they will have a meeting on Tuesday with the Attorney General to discuss the matter further.

    [03] Italian Minister We must do everything to stop provocations in the region

    Italian Minister of Defence Mario Mauro has expressed his conviction that everything possible must be done to stop all provocations in the Mediterranean region.

    Mauro who was speaking after a meeting he had with his Cypriot counterpart Photis Photiou had been asked to comment on the presence of the Turkish flagged "Barbarosa" within Cyprus' territorial waters.

    "During the meeting with the minister we discussed this subject and I reconfirmed my conviction: We are to do all that is possible to stop all provocations for security in our region", he pointed out.

    [04] Eurostat confirms growth decline in third quarter of 2013 in Cyprus

    A second estimate for the third quarter of 2013 published Wednesday by Eurostat confirmed that growth rates in Cyprus have declined. The estimate indicated that the GDP rose by 0.1% in the Euro area. Among Member States for which data are available for the third quarter of 2013,

    Romania (+1.6%) and Latvia (+1.2%) recorded the highest growth compared with the previous quarter, followed by Hungary and the United Kingdom (both +0.8%).

    On the other hand, Eurostat said that Cyprus (-0.8%), the Czech Republic (-0.5%), France and Italy (both -0.1%) registered decreases. In the second quarter of 2013, growth rates in Cyprus were -1.8% while in the third quarter fell to -0.8%.
