  • [01] Parliament to vote on environmental legislation to avoid fine

The Parliamentary Committee on the Environment has concluded the discussion on a package of proposed legislative measures aimed at incorporating into the national legal order the acquis communautaire on the prevention and control of industrial emissions and industrial waste.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment Adamos Adamou has said that the bills are expected to be sent to the plenary session of the House on December 12 for a vote.

Adamou said that changes in the legislation were made in order to secure that the goal of protecting the environment and health and the safety of residents is met and at the same time 1.100 businesses and industries will avoid closure, by fulfilling their legal obligations.

[02] Clarifications needed on football agreement from Turkish Cypriots

The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) is expecting further clarifications about a general meeting of Turkish Cypriot football organizations, during which the text of a provisional arrangement on all organizations of football of Cyprus is said to have been approved.

According to CNA sources, CFA expects to be briefed on the precise nature of what was approved at the meeting, given conflicting reports on developments in the matter. According to reports Turkish Cypriot football organizations have not in fact approved the actual text of the agreement but they have decided to empower the Turkish Cypriot Football Association (TCFA) President Hasan Sertoğlu to attempt to amend the agreement with provisions which would be more favourable to the TCFA.

The same sources indicate that CFA will not accept any amendments since it considers the text of the agreement final.
