  • [01] Common basis needed for resumption of talks, says House President

In order to resume the UN-led peace talks for a political settlement in Cyprus, a common negotiating basis is needed, House of Representatives President Yiannakis Omirou has said.

Addressing a memorial on Sunday for those fallen and missing during the 1974 Turkish invasion, which resulted in the occupation of the island's northern third, Omirou stressed that the practice of entering into talks for the sake of doing so should remain firmly in the past.

He said that Turkey's intransigent stance in the Cyprus issue over the past five years promote racial discrimination and violate every democratic principle and every international rule.

[02] Energy Minister in Beijing on a working visit

Minister of Energy Giorgos Lakkotrypis is paying Beijing a three-day working visit, between October 28 and 30.

Lakkotrypis is accompanied by a large group of entrepreneurs from the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

He is scheduled to have meetings with senior officials from the Chinese government, and will also address a forum organised by the Ministry of Energy, the CCCI and the Chinese Council for the promotion of international trade.

[03] Clocks turn back an hour on Sunday

At 04.00 hours clocks turned back to 03.00 hours.

Winter time will be in place until March 30, 2014.
