[01] FM role not affected by reduced budget, Kasoulides tells MPs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2014 budget has been reduced by 4.94%
compared to 2013, and amounts to 75.362.151 euro.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides, who presented the
Ministry's budget before the House Committee of Financial Affairs,
said that the budget took into consideration the difficult economic
circumstances in Cyprus, but assured MPs that despite cuts, the diplomatic
service will continue its important mission.
Kasoulides noted that 30% of the expenses concern the Republic's
contribution to the maintenance of the UN Peacekeeping's Force in Cyprus
(UNFICYP) and to other UN or EU bodies, which is obligatory and there
is no room for reduction.
