[01] Cyprus Antiquities Department introduces tours for the Blind
The Cyprus Department of Antiquities has launched a pilot tour program
for the Blind, giving the opportunity to people with visual disabilities
to visit various archeological sites of great importance.
On Saturday, a group of people visited the famous House of Dionysos,
part of the Paphos Mosaics in the southwest coast of the island. The
project takes place in coordination and cooperation with the School for
the Blind in Nicosia. Communications and Works Minister Tasos Mitsopoulos
said that promoting the welfare state where all citizens will have access
to cultural sites and events is a high priority for the government.
He said that the Department of Antiquities has issued brochures in the
Braille system, in both the Greek and the English language with the aim
to accommodate people who are visually impaired and provide them with
the opportunity to visit Cyprus' most popular archeological sites. The
Minister also said that the government is supporting all the projects that
aim at the welfare of all the citizens with disabilities and to this end
has constructed footbridges for better access to churches and other sites.
