[01] Cyprus President to pay official visit to Kuwait
Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades departs next Tuesday for Kuwait,
where he will pay a two-day official visit, on 8-9 October. The President
will meet, inter alia, with Emir Sabah Al-Ajmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah,
the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament of Kuwait.
He will also address a business forum and sign a number of bilateral
agreements. According to an official announcement, President Anastasiades
will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides,
the Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades and the Minister of Energy,
Commerce, Industry and Tourism George Lakkotypis. A large delegation
of Cypriot businessmen will also accompany the President to Kuwait.
During the first day of his visit, the President will hold talks with
the Emir of the State of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ajmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and
the delegations of the two countries will sign bilateral agreements.
[02] Cyprus solution must provide for the right of return, President says
The solution of the Cyprus problem must recognize the right of displaced
Cypriots to return to their homes, on the basis of international and
European law, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades stressed
Friday. In his address at the opening of an exhibition of the Turkish
occupied Municipality of Kyrenia, he said that this northern coastal
town in the island of Cyprus is for 39 years now a synonym for struggle,
justice, reunification and restoration of human rights. The solution,
he said, must take into consideration and exploit the new strategic
developments in Cyprus and the region as well as Cyprus' status as full
EU member state. "Our duty is to continue the struggle for a just, viable
and functional solution that would restore fundamental freedoms and human
rights for all Cypriots, including the right to return", he stressed.
[03] Cyprus proceeds with the construction of an LNG terminal, Energy
Minister says
Cyprus government proceeds with careful steps with the planning of the
necessary infrastructure to exploit local natural gas reserves, including
the construction of an export-oriented LNG plant, Energy Minister Giorgos
Lakkotrypis said on Saturday. He added that "the verified discoveries
by Noble Energy International of significant quantities of natural gas
in block 12 within Cyprus' exclusive economic zone is an important step
towards materializing our goals". Addressing the conference "The Eastern
Mediterranean Today, Security, Political and Economic Dynamics", organized
by the European Party, in Nicosia, Lakkotrypis said that geological
explorations are already underway. Companies Eni/Kogas and Total are
expected to proceed with exploratory wells in the region within the
second semester of 2014. The Minister also expressed the government's
"nonnegotiable target" of establishing Cyprus as an energy center in
the Southeastern Mediterranean.
