  • [01] Economic difficulties will not bend our determination for a solution says Interior Minister

Interior Minister Socrates Hasikos sent Sunday the message that any temporary difficulties due to the economic woes in Cyprus will neither bend nor curb the determination and the fighting spirit of Cypriot people.

In his speech at a national memorial service, he said that now is the time to consider "our own historical responsibility and our duty towards our homeland".

"We will not allow any forgery or falsification of our history. Nor we will bend to any blackmail and inappropriate pressure, "he said.

[02] Government aims to reverse dangerous positions in Cyprus issue

The government's aim is to reverse dangerous positions as regards the Cyprus issue and to abate Turkish intransigence, which will in turn boost a new process of talks, Minister of Defence Photis Photiou has said.

He was speaking during a memorial in honour of the men of National Guard Battalion 336, who perished during the Turkish invasion, in Ayios Dometios Nicosia.

Hard work, good preparation and unity of efforts on all levels are imperative and the only way out in order for the Cyprus problem to be seen in its true dimension, Photiou noted.

[03] Family farming in EU meeting in Lithuania

The Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Nikos Kougialis will take part in the Informal Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of the EU, in Vilnius.

According to an official announcement, the Informal Council will discuss, inter alia, the issue of family farming and its prospects in the context of globalization, due to the determination of the year 2014 as the Year of Family Agriculture by the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The Minister returns to Cyprus on Tuesday, September 10.

[04] Syrian refugees the focus of PACE, in Paris

MP Athena Kyriakidou travels Monday, September 9, to Paris, to attend a meeting of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on 10 September.

The issue of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Iraq and the organization and delivery of international aid, the issue of Chinese immigrants in Europe and the issue of AIDS in relation to migration and refugee flows will be discussed during the Committee's work, according to an official announcement.

Issues of effective and fair return of migrants and asylum seekers who do not qualify for hosting, the issue of missing persons as a result of European conflicts and difficulties that arise in efforts to ascertain their fate, will also be discussed.
