    Arrivals of tourists in Cyprus decreased by 5.8% for the period January - July 2013, compared to the corresponding period last year. Moreover, residents of Cyprus traveling abroad decreased in July 2013 by 11.3%, compared to the corresponding month in 2012.

    The data were released on Thursday by the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus. On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 361,442 in July 2013 compared to 371,453 in July 2012, recording a decrease of 2.7%.

    The number of Cyprus residents who returned from a trip abroad in July 2013 recorded a decrease of 11.3% (116,321 passengers compared to 131,096 in the corresponding month last year).

    [02] MFA: Cyprus ready to assist foreigners' evacuation from Syria and Lebanon

    Cyprus is ready to handle the influx of foreign nationals if war breaks out in Syria, according to Foreign Ministry Consular Affairs Department Head Stavros Avgoustides.

    In statements to Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Avgoustides said so far, there has not been any response to yesterday's travel advice to all Cypriot citizens who reside or visit Syria to leave the country immediately, in light of the deteriorating situation.

    "We are ready", he said, pointing out everything is laid out on paper. We have to see in practice how we will manage. We are hopeful that there will not be any problem", he added.

    [03] Cyprus FM met with Western Ambassadors to discuss Syria

    The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kassoulides held on Wednesday separate meetings with the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom Matthew Kidd, the Ambassador of the USA John M. Koenig and the Charge d' Affaires of France Eric Millet, to discuss the situation in Syria.

    According to an official announcement, the meetings are part of the review of the recent developments in the region, especially following information regarding the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
