[01] Cyprus manages to deliver justice faster, according to CoE report
The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, responsible for
monitoring the proper execution of Court of Human Rights rulings, in an
action report acknowledges that the Republic of Cyprus has managed to
reduced the time needed to deliver justice in civil and criminal cases,
and agrees with Cyprus that the monitoring status should now be lifted
in this sector.
According to the report, after numerous bills and reforms concerning the
judicial system in Cyprus, a spectacular reduction of the time needed
to deliver justice in civil and criminal cases has been achieved over
the past four years.
Statistical data shows that on 31 December 2009 there were 2,099 pending
civil cases Cyprus-wide, which had been filed in 2007. By 31 December
2011, this number had dropped to 1,286.
