[01] Karpass refugees ask for Third Vienna Agreement implementationCypriots from the Karpass peninsula, in the north eastern side of Cyprus, call for the implementation of the Third Vienna Agreement.In a press conference on Thursday, all local bodies and associations representing Karpass residents pointed out that if the agreement is implemented the hope of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots living together again in a state where the rule of law and European law prevails will be once again revived. They also stressed that the agreement could be used as a practical confidence building measure and reconciliation before a solution can be found. Speaking at the event head of the Free United Karpas Petros Assiotis said that if the agreement is implemented the true intentions of Turkey will be apparent as to whether once a solution is agreed it will implement it. [02] Defence Minister: Foreign policy based on national interestsMinister of Defence Photis Photiou said on Thursday that the government was exercising its foreign and defence policy based on safeguarding its own sovereign rights and the national interests of the country.Photiou was commenting on a press report that the American Enterprise Institute saw possible Turkish intervention in Cyprus due to the natural gas issue, and that the US administration should follow Turkish moves. The Minister said possible broader cooperation in the region should have the sole aim of safeguarding stability and peace in the region, which was on a destabilisation track due to the challenges and tension caused by Turkey and the developments in the Middle East. [03] ECB welcomes conclusion of Bank of Cyprus` resolutionThe ECB welcomes the conclusion of the resolution of Cyprus' major bank, the Bank of Cyprus."The Governing Council of the European Central Bank welcomes the announcement by the Cypriot authorities on the conclusion of the Bank of Cyprus resolution process" says an announcement, issued Thursday, after the conclusion of the Governing Council's session, in Frankfurt. It is added that the finalization of this process is a major step toward restoring confidence in the domestic banking system.
