[01] Defence Minister to visit AthensDefence Minister Fotis Fotiou will pay a two-day visit to Athens 22-23 July, as part of events marking the 39 years since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.On Monday, Fotiou will be received by President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias and will also meet his Greek counterpart Demetris Avraamopoulos. Fotiou will address an anti-occupation gathering on Monday at Syntagma Square, organized by the Federation of Greek organizations in collaboration with the Cyprus Embassy in Athens and Cyprus organizations in Greece. The Defence Minister will also attend the graduation ceremony at the Evelpidon Military School before returning to Cyprus. [02] House President: Time for a new national strategy on Cyprus issuePresident of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou has said that it is time for a new national strategy on the Cyprus problem.In statements after the formal memorial service which was held at the Faneromeni Church in Nicosia for those killed during the Turkish invasion in 1974, Omirou said that it is time for a new national strategy that would outline the Cyprus problem as a problem of invasion and occupation of a foreign country, Turkey, against Cyprus. He also reiterated the need to withdraw the "unacceptable concessions of the past five years" and to "redefine our goals in the new international environment in the wider Eastern Mediterranean and to have an assertive participation in the EU." [03] China and Cyprus to advance relations in education fieldChina's ambassador to Cyprus, Liu Xinsheng stressed Friday that China's vision to advance development could be to Cyprus' advantage since there are many good opportunities for cooperation in the field of energy, commerce, education and tourism.During a meeting with Education and Culture Minister Kyriakos Kenevezos, Liu assured about the significance which the Chinese side attributes to strengthening cooperation between the two countries. He said that "both sides have come very close in the last years" and referred to the significant increase of arrivals by Chinese nationals who chose to come to Cyprus either for studies, investment or tourism.
