[01] Council to endorse Patent agreement reached by Cyprus EU Presidency
The EU Competitiveness Council is expected to endorse on Monday the
agreement reached by the Cyprus EU Presidency at the Committee of
Permanent Representatives (COREPER I), last month, on the Unitary
Patent Package.
The Cyprus EU Presidency succeeded in November to close, at the COREPER
I level, a dossier which was being discussed among the EU member states
for over 30 years, thus paving the way for the first European unitary
patent to be introduced early 2014.
Deputy Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the EU Ambassador George
Zodiates had told CNA that the unitary patent package would contribute
to the recovery of the EU economy since it cuts the costs of patent
protection by 80%.
[02] Concert to mark upcoming end of the Cyprus EU Presidency
A concert to mark the end of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency, which
runs at the 2nd half of 2012, will take place on Saturday at the Barbican
Concert Hall, in London.
Classical music enthusiasts will have the opportunity to enjoy the
world renowned Academy of St Martin in the Fields orchestra, which joins
forces with two famous artists, the Greek maestro Nikos Christodoulou
and the Cypriot pianist Martinos Tirimos, to mark the conclusion of six
successful months of Cyprus holding the reins of the EU.
The festive schedule of the concert kicks off with music from the Schubert
ballet "Rosamunde, Princess of Cyprus", as well as the first performance
in London of "Octana" by the Cypriot composer Andreas Moustoukis. Another
premiere will be the orchestration by the maestro of the "Dancers of
Delphi" (Danseuses de Deplhe) by Claude Debuchy.
