[01] Omirou: It is time to assume, not to disclaim, responsibility
It is time to assume and not to disclaim responsibility, House President
Yiannakis Omirou said on Wednesday , commenting on Tuesday's message by
President Demetris Christofias, to the people of Cyprus on the agreement
reached between the government and its international lenders (IMF, EC,
ECB) on the loan Memorandum.
"This time is a time for assuming not disclaiming responsibility",
said Omirou asked about Tuesday's presidential message to the people,
upon his arrival at Larnaka Airport after a visit to Lebanon.
In his message President Christofias said that the Government "have
never claimed infallibility," adding that "this however cannot be an
excuse for blaming everything on the President and the Government". He
noted that especially on the issue of the banks, according to the EU
Directive, the sole responsibility for the supervision and regulation
of the banking system rests with central banks and not with governments.
