  • [01] CTO optimistic that Cyprus tourism will perform well in 2013

    It seems that 2013 will be another good year for tourism, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) George Mindis said on Friday.

    Mindis was speaking at a conference on "Tourism and Competitiveness: delivering results for growth, sustainable development and European citizens", organized here today by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in the framework of the Cyprus EU Presidency.

    Representing the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism at the conference, Vice President of the Board of CTO said, inter alia, that tourism sector supports the economy of the country and contributes to the growth and prosperity.

    [02] House President to pay official visit to Lebanon

    House President Yiannakis Omirou leaves on Monday for Beirut on an official visit, at the invitiation of his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri.

    Omirou will be received by Lebanese President General Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and have separate meeting with the President of the National Assembly Nabih Berri, Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, former Premier and opposition leader Fouad Siniora and the president of the Progressive Socialist party Walid Jumblatt.

    Berri will host an official dinner for Omirou.

    [03] COREPER II approves agreement on trans-European energy infrastructure

    EU Deputy Permanent Representatives COREPER II approved Friday the agreement which was reached earlier this week between the Cyprus EU Presidency, the European Parliament and the European Commission on the Regulation on Guidelines for trans-European energy infrastructure.

    The new regulatory framework will safeguard the timely development of key infrastructures - the so called ‘projects of common interest'- through close regional cooperation of Member States, accelerated and transparent permit granting procedures and cross-border cost allocation rules.

    It will also provide for the eligibility of these projects for Union financial assistance under the proposed Connecting Europe Facility.

    [04] Albanian European Integration Minister to visit Cyprus

    Minister of European Integration of Albania Ìajlinda Bregu, will pay a working visit to Cyprus from December 2 to 4.

    According to an official press release, Bregu will visit Cyprus at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, in her capacity as President of the General Affairs Council of the EU (enlargement aspect).

    Bregu's visit follows the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, Edmond Panariti, to Cyprus, on October 4, and the visit of Minister Marcoullis to Tirana, on July 31.
