[01] EU Sport Directors discuss funding of athletic clubs, match fixing
and doping
EU funding of athletic clubs, match fixing, anti-doping policies, youth
and sports as well as the contribution of sports towards economic growth
and employment were discussed during a two-day meeting of the EU Sport
Directors in Nicosia, in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the
Council of the EU.
According to a news announcement, the above issues were promoted as key
priorities by the Cyprus Presidency.
As regards the EU financing of the athletic clubs, during the discussion
it was noted that the European Commission has sent letters to the
member-states last October through and requires a detailed briefing
about the funding of sports and especially football.
