    The eradication of every kind of violence against women constitutes a major priority of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU constitutes, Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Sotiroulla Charalambous has stressed.

    Charalambous addressed the closing ceremony of a European Conference on combating violence against women. The conference, which started on Thursday, November 8, was organised by the Cyprus Presidency and the European Commission and it was held at the ‘Filoxenia' Conference Centre in Nicosia.

    "The issue of violence against women concerns everyone and as such the prevention, combating and eradication of every kind of violence through effective, coordinated governmental policies and practices with the participation of the civil society, constitute a major priority of the Republic of Cyprus as a state and as a Presidency of the Council of the EU".

    [02] European Space Expo travels to Larnaca

    The city of Larnaca, in the southern coast of Cyprus will be the next venue of the European Space Expo.

    The Expo will be located at Europe Square close to the Palm Trees Promenade at the seafront between 12-18 November. The European Commission has launched the European Space Expo to show how space and its applications provide benefits to Europe`s citizens.

    The Expo will highlight the critical role of the European Union in space and space-based technologies. Through the investment in the flagship programmes of Galileo, EGNOS and GMES, the citizens of Europe will benefit from the many services and applications, which are expected to create global market opportunities and help to support job creation and economic growth.

    The Expo was previously on display in Copenhagen, Toulouse, Helsinki, Brussels and Vienna and its next stop following Cyprus, will be London, beginning of December. Parallel to the Expo, the city of Larnaka will host the 2nd FP7 Space Conference between 15-16 November.
