stance on Cyprus technology organizations certified by the CCC Presidency [01] CYSEC to host ESMA meetings in CyprusThe Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CYSEC) will host on November 5 and 6 the meetings the Management Board and the Board of Supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in Limassol.A press release issued by CYSEC writes that he ESMA meetings are taking place in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union. ESMA is the independent EU Authority that contributes to safeguarding the stability of the financial system of the EU by ensuring the integrity, transparency, efficiency and orderly functioning of securities markets, the consistent application of the European legal framework across the EU, as well as enhancing investor protection. Furthermore, ESMA contributes to the regulation of financial services firms with a pan-European reach, through the active co-ordination of national supervisory activity. [02] Russian parliamentarian assures House President of Russia's firm stance on CyprusRussian parliamentarian Konstantin I. Kosachev, who is one of MPs heading a high-level Russian parliamentary delegation which visits Cyprus, assured House President Yiannakis Omirou that Russia's stance as regards the settlement of the Cyprus problem remains unchanged and is based on the international law principles, to which the Russian foreign policy conforms.An official press release said that Omirou discussed with the Russian parliamentary delegation, headed by Kosachev and Andrey A. Klimov, about efforts to solve the Cyprus problem and thanked the Russian Federation for the support it gives to Cyprus` cause, especially as a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council. According to the press release, the two sides reaffirmed the very good relations between Cyprus and the Russian Federation that can be further enhanced and extended in new fields. [03] Cyprus Presidency hosts conferences on research, innovation and technologyMore than 300 participants and 80 keynote speakers from around Europe will take part in two conferences on research, innovation and technology that are organized in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.The agenda of the two conferences was presented on Thursday during a press conference at the offices of the Planning Bureau in Nicosia. The first conference titled " European Institute of Innovation (EIT) and Technology Stakeholders Conference -Addressing Societal Challenges" is taking place 8-9 November in the coastal city of Larnaka. It is organized by the Research Promotion Foundation of Cyprus with the support of the European Commission Lifelong Learning Programme. [04] Countdown to Cyprus RallyCyprus rally organizers have been putting the final touches for the Cyprus Rally which starts Friday afternoon with a superspecial stage in Pafos city centre.As both the season closer of the 2012 Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC), and the penultimate round of the 2012 FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC), this year's Cyprus Rally has attracted an impressive line-up of international, regional and national drivers, including defending IRC champion Andreas Mikkelsen of Norway, and 2010 Cyprus Rally winner Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar. Crews have been busy testing set-ups this week on stages similar to those that will feature in this weekend's rally. Monday saw Al-Attiyah putting his Ford Fiesta RRC through its pre-event paces at Anadiou, while Tuesday saw Mikkelsen and Sepp Wiegand get a feel for the Cyprus conditions in their Skodas. Andreas Aignier will be tackling the event in a Subaru Impreza with an eye on Production Car success, and other drivers spotted in the Cyprus countryside in preparation for the weekend have included Yazeed Al-Rajhi of Saudi Arabia (testing at Panagia) and Russia's Vasily Gryazin (checking out his Ford Fiesta S2000 at Pomos), as well as acclaimed drivers such as Toshi Arai and Jarko Nikara. [05] Honorary distinctions awarded to more than 100 companies and organizations certified by the CCCMore than 100 companies and organizations certified by the Cyprus Certification Company were awarded honorary distinctions and quality certificates during a conference organized under Cyprus President Demetris Christofias' auspices.Addressing the conference, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Neoklis Sylikiotis said that Cyprus ranks first among the EU 27 member states in adopting European standards and in lifting regulations and Cypriot standards which do not comply with European standards." An honorary distinction was awarded to J&P group of companies for its devotion to quality, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its establishment. Honorary distinctions for 2012 were awarded also to the international standardization organizations ISO and IEC and to the European standardization organizations CEN, CENELEC and ETSI for their substantive contribution in quality upgrading. [06] ACCA and ICPAC organise Forum on the occasion of the Cyprus PresidencyThe Association of Chartered certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC) are hosting on Friday, November 2, a Forum on "Regional solutions for a changing Europe - Celebrating the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council".The Forum is organised with the patronage of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. Presenting the Forum at Press conference held here on Thursday, ACCA President (2011-12) Dean Westcott said that it has traditionally being held to bring together political and business leaders, policy experts, market participants and ACCA members to discuss the whole host of issues.
