[01] Cyprus' revised MFF discussed at COREPER levelThe Cyprus EU Presidency's new revised negotiating box on the EU's next budget for 2014-2020 was discussed Wednesday for the first time on EU Permanent Representatives level (COREPER II).CNA has learnt that although during the meeting the different approaches on the issue were once more highlighted, all delegations recognized the Presidency's difficult task especially during these difficult economic times. Some member states expressed the view that the revised negotiating box is too conservative, asking for more cuts on the Commission's proposal. Other states asked for less cuts, in order to come closer to the Commission's initial proposal. [02] President to meet with a European Club-Russia delegationRussian - EU relations will be the focus of a meeting Thursday between President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and a European Club - Russia delegation, CNA sources say.President Christofias will receive the high-level delegation, comprising members of the Federal Assembly of Russia, on Thursday noon. Earlier on, the delegation will also be received by House of Representatives President Yiannakis Omirou. CNA sources say the meeting will focus on Russian - EU relations in the context of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency, which runs at the 2nd half of 2012. The delegation includes Chairman of the European Club Konstantin Kosachev and Andrey Klimov. [03] Tourism revenue hit new record in AugustTourism revenue set a new record in August reaching 312.1 million euro. At 16.9%, this is the biggest annual increase in 13 months by 16.9%, data released Wednesday by Cyprus Statistical Service show.Cyprus Tourism Organisation has expressed its satisfaction and optimism for the future in a press release issued after the data were released. Data based on the Passenger Survey, show revenue from tourism increased to 312.1 million euro in August compared to 267 million euro in August 2011. [04] Cyprus records second highest unemployment increase in EUUnemployment rate in Cyprus recorded the second highest annual increase in the EU. According to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, unemployment in Cyprus reached in September 2012 12.2%, compared to 11.8% in August and 8.5% in September 2011.The euro area (EA17) seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 11.6% in September 2012, up from 11.5% in August. The EU27 unemployment rate was 10.6% in September 2012, stable compared with August. In both zones, rates have risen significantly compared with September 2011, when they were 10.3% and 9.8% respectively. Eurostat estimates that 25.751 million men and women in the EU27, of whom 18.490 million were in the euro area, were unemployed in September 2012.
