[01] Radiomarathon concludes, over 1.2 m. collected
Donations for the 23rd Radiomarathon for children with special needs,
the biggest charity event on the island, which ended at midnight last
night, have exceeded one million euro, organizers have said.
Under the motto "Only Love Can", this year's Radiomarathon raised over
1.200 million euros.
A total of 39 kiosks operated in every town of the southern government
controlled part of the country for donations and 14 piggy-bank cars
toured to collect money.
[02] Cyprus supports a more functional and flexible UN, Minister says
Education and Culture Minister George Demosthenous has said that the
Republic of Cyprus supports reforms that will make the United Nations a
more functional and flexible organization, capable of taking decisions
and implementing them.
In a message on the occasion of October 24 which marks the founding of the
United Nations, Demosthenous expressed hope that the UN will safeguard,
in the future, the ecumenical respect of its principles, "on which we
rely in our pursuit to secure the survival of the people of Cyprus."
Demosthenous noted that "we support our state entity in the UN framework
and we seek a just and viable settlement of the Cyprus problem on the
basis of Security Council and General Assembly resolutions."
