  • [01] Trade Unions ask President to hold a tough bargain with international lenders

The leaders of the trade unions in Cyprus, namely the Cyprus Workers Confederation (SEK), the Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO) and the Democratic Labour Federation of Cyprus (DEOK), have asked President of the Republic Demetris Christofias to hold a tough bargain with Cyprus' international lenders (EU Commission, IMF, ECB).

SEK, PEO and DEOK leaders, during a meeting on Monday at the Presidential Palace with the President, stressed that they will not step back on the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), the 13th salary and the semi-governmental organisations.

The leader of the Pancyprian Public Employees Trade Union (PASYDY), also present at the meeting with the President, expressed strong objections to the measures proposed for the civil servants. SEK, PEO, DEOK and PASYDY leaders blamed the banks for Cyprus' need for a bailout.
