    Dossiers submitted to the government in relation to the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon reserves in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) will soon be opened.

    Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Neoclis Sylikiotis has activated the procedure to open the dossiers for the second licensing round for exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon reserves in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

    Sylikiotis has sent a letter to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the evaluation of the applications with a view to begin as soon as possible the evaluation procedure.

    In statements Wednesday after a meeting with representatives of parliamentary parties, whom he briefed on energy issues, Sylikiotis said that on June 11 he is due to fly to Israel to discuss with his Israeli counterpart cooperation issues in the field of energy.

    [02] Barroso - Ban to discuss Cyprus issue

    The Cyprus question, along with the situation in Syria and the World Conference Rio +20, will be among the issues to be discussed at a meeting on Thursday between UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

    Barroso is to take part in a conference focusing on the financial system and the world economy at UN headquarters on Thursday.

    According to his spokesperson Pia Ahrenkilde issues to be discussed during the meeting include the Rio +20 Conference of June 20 – 22, the Cyprus problem and Syria.

    UN-led talks are currently underway between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus to find a negotiated settlement that would reunite the country, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.

    [03] Cyprus` annual inflation in April reaches 3,6%

    Cyprus' annual inflation in April reached 3,6%, compared to 3,5% in March.

    According to figures from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, Euro area annual inflation was 2.6% in April 2012, down from 2.7% in March. A year earlier the rate was 2.8%. Monthly inflation was 0.5% in April 2012.

    EU annual inflation was 2.7% in April 2012, down from 2.9% in March. A year earlier the rate was 3.3%. Monthly inflation was 0.5% in April 2012.

    In April 2012, the lowest annual rates were observed in Sweden (1.0%), Greece (1.5%), Ireland and Romania (both 1.9%), and the highest in Hungary (5.6%), Estonia (4.3%), the Czech Republic and Poland (both 4.0%). Compared with March 2012, annual inflation fell in sixteen Member States and rose in ten.
