The head of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment
Cristina Gutierrez-Cortines expressed satisfaction over Cyprus' response
to a series of issues concerning the implementation of EU law, including
water and waste management issues, the environment and bird trapping.
MEP Gutierrez-Cortines, heading the European Parliament Committee
delegation, met Wednesday at the EU House, in Nicosia, with the Cyprus
Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Sophocles
Aletraris, as well as with other high ranking Ministry officials.
Gutierrez-Cortines expressed the belief that Cyprus will have a good EU
Presidency term and said that the country is competent to get through
the task and deserves therefore the support of the European Parliament.
Asked about illegal bird trapping, Aletraris noted that the government
does not tolerate illegal bird trapping.
