[01] Elections will be held as scheduled says Interior Minister
Interior Minister Neoclis Sylikiotis stated Thursday that elections
will be held, speaking after a meeting at the Ministry with
representatives of political parties, the Chief Returning Officers and
the District Returning officers, in response to the call of public
sector trade union PASYDY to civil servants not to work for the local
administration elections on Sunday 18 December.
``We take every measure to address problems that might arise,`` said
Sylikiotis, announcing that there will be another meeting on the issue
with the political parties, on Friday at 10 am (local time).
Chief Returning Officer Andreas Assiotis, urged PASYDY to reconsider
its position, adding that he will send a letter to the trade union,
seeking a written answer on whether is willing to change that
decision.
He also asked the chairmen of the polling stations to send him a fax,
telling him whether they will work or not in Sundays elections.
