[01] Cyprus issue part of budget debate
The Republic of Cyprus will exercise the six monthly rotating EU
presidency, in the second half of 2012, just like every other member
state does, President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou
said here today, noting that the presidency itself will highlight the
Cyprus issue.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday who cover the Parliament, he also
said that the Cyprus issue will be examined during the debate on the
2012 state budget.
It is expected that during the debate on the state budget, developments
in the Cyprus issue will be examined, in view of the meeting of the
leaders in New York in January, he added.
He further said that amendments would be required to the budget to
include new austerity measures expected to be agreed during a meeting
of parliamentary parties with the President of the Republic.
