[01] Markoullis briefs Palestinians on Cyprus issue and Turkish threats
Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis held an
official visit to the National Palestinian Authority , where she met
with Prime Minister Salam Fayad and Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad
Malki, whom she briefed on the latest developments in the Cyprus
problem and Turkey`s threats and provocative actions within the
exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Cyprus.
Markoullis will be briefing her European counterparts on the results of
her contacts in the region, in the context of the EU External Affairs
Council on December 1 in Brussels.
During her visit, Markoullis and the Palestinian officials reviewed
bilateral relations and cooperation so far.
Referring to the Middle East question, Markoullis reiterated Cyprus`
position regarding the struggle of the Palestinian people, noting that
the resumption of talks was the only way to solve the problem and
establish an independent and viable Palestinian state.
They also exchanged views on developments in the broader region of the
Middle East, especially concerning the next steps of the Arab League
regarding the situation in Syria.
