  • [01] HOUSE PRESIDENT HYDROCARBONS

As long as the Turkish occupation and the insistence for the existence of a pseudostate continue it will unfortunately not be possible for Turkish Cypriots to enjoy the benefits of natural gas exploitation, said House of Representatives President Yiannakis Omirou.

Turkey is to blame for this predicament, since it persists to illegally occupy 37% of the Republic of Cyprus territory, Omirou added, during his address at a national memorial for EOKA heroes Andreas Patsalides and Charalambos Pettemerides at Kanavia village, located in the Nicosia District south west of the capital.

He also noted that those who wish for stability and security to prevail in the region should focus their attention on Turkish aggression.

Turkey, he stressed, must make historic decisions. It will either cooperate with the countries in the region towards a happy future for its people, or it will insist in anachronistic and neo-ottoman behaviour which will place it in the margins of developments, he added.

[02] BISHOP OF KYRENIA - REPOSED

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus has announced that Bishop of Kyrenia, Pavlos, passed away on Saturday.

The Bishops funeral will take place on Monday, at Apostle Andreas Church, located in Aglantzia, Nicosia. Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos II will officiate the funeral, set to take place at 1400 (1100GMT).

The Bishop of Kyrenia was born in Larnaca on November 21, 1945.

In 1972 he graduated from the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens, Greece, and in 1985 he was awarded a PhD by the Theology Faculty of the University of Oxford.

[03] BAGHDATIS MALYSIAN OPEN - FINAL
