Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Markoullis will pay a visit to Athens Thursday during which she will discuss issues concerning the Cyprus problem, Turkey`s EU course, the economic situation of Greece and developments in the Middle East.

An official press release says that Markoullis will meet with her Greek counterpart Stavros Lambrinides and have a series of meetings with the leaders or representatives of the Greek parliamentary parties.

In particular, she will discuss with Lambrinides the recent developments regarding the Cyprus talks, Turkey`s EU course, the new package of measures for the Greek economy, the Middle East developments, as well as preparations for the assumption of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU by Cyprus in the second half of 2012.

    [02] MINISTRY - EU - SOLIDARITY

The Interior Ministry welcomed Wednesday EU decisions to increase solidarity among member states to help them deal with migration flows.

According to an official press release the first decision relates with the European Commissions proposal that the EU External Borders Fund allocates three hundred and seventy million euro to member states in 2012, out of which Cyprus is to be allocated about seven million euro, compared to three million in 2011.

The second decision concerns FRONTEX planning for operations in Cyprus, operations such as close monitoring of immigration flows in Eastern Mediterranean mainly as a result of the current situation in Syria and also immediate mobilization in case needed.

These developments are expected to reinforce significantly Cyprus already big efforts for better monitoring of its borders, which are also external borders of the EU. At the same time, they are a positive step to achieve equal share of the burden created by migration flows the Ministry noted.
