Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has stressed that ``it is in the hand of the Turkish side, a united Cyprus Republic to assume the EU Presidency``.

Commenting on the statements made by Foreign Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu during his illegal visit to the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus, Stephanou notes in a written statement that if the Turkish side cooperates for a solution of a reunited Cypriot state, then the two Cypriot communities could undertake the EU Presidency in the second half of 2012, in the framework of the reunified state.

The Turkish FM`s statements, Stephanou notes, ``are part of the unacceptable and provocative communication policy of Turkey to shift its responsibilities to others for not achieving a solution of the Cyprus issue``.

Turkey, he adds, instead of accusing the Greek-Cypriot policy for so called obstruction at the talks, should be concerned about its policy which hinders the achievement of a solution.

Instead of making communicating tricks and trying to consolidate the faits accomplis of the Turkish occupation, Turkey should prove in deed its willingness to work for a solution based on the UN resolutions, which Ankara so far has not implemented, he stresses.
